THE FLIRTS are a female trio spawning several Dance hits and music videos in MTV in the early 80’s. The group was created by American producer Bobby Orlando, known around the world for their smash dance club hits “DANGER” & “JUKEBOX”, receiving heavy airplay on MTV and appearing on several 80’s New Wave compilations including the VALLEY GIRL film soundtrack.
Their biggest chart success in America was with “YOU AND ME”, which hit number one on the Hot Dance Club Play chart, and have had several world tours, including Europe, South America and several Latin American Countries.
The current lineup features founding member Christina Criscione and her vibrant and talented partners Kim Rowe and Danielle McKee. I was fortunate enough to play with them for a couple of shows in recent years, and have gotten to know them as incredibly lovely and sweet humans. Come Flirt live with us!

Although there were many incarnations of bands Dan performed with in South Dakota and in Portland it was in December of 1985 where he truly first began his musical journey as the lead singer of a band called “The Dan Reed Network”. Garnering huge local support Dan Reed Network was signed to Polygram in 1987 by Derek Shulman, famed A+R man who signed ‘Bon Jovi’.
Managed by Bill Graham and Q-Prime later, DRN played opening act on European tours for Bon Jovi, The Rolling Stones, David Bowie and Midnight Oil, and performed in America with Run DMC and toured with UB40. Selling nearly 2 million albums worldwide, DRN was part of the funk rock movement and released three albums with Polygram between 1989 and 1992. The Dan Reed Network released three successful albums to much critical and commercial success between 1988 and 1992 and had the opportunity to work with producer greats Bruce Fairbairn, and Nile Rogers for the three Polygram releases, while managed by Bill Graham and Q-Prime respectively.
DRN got to see the world opening for such bands as RUN DMC, UB40, David Bowie and Bon Jovi, eventually becoming the supporting act for the Rolling Stones’ 1991 European tour. It was at this time Dan journeyed to India with Bob Guccione Jr., editor of Spin Magazine, to interview the Dalai Lama for magazine. It was during this trip that Dan began to hunger for more than the music scene had to offer. This trip was the catalyst to a long journey that eventually took Dan back to music in 2008, and to where he belonged… writing and performing new music about new experiences without the baggage of some “rock star image”.
Reed took a long hiatus from the music business in early 2003 and spent 4 years in Northern India and Jerusalem, living in a Tibetan Monastery and studying religions while in the Middle East. Coming back to music in 2009 he now performs extensively throughout Europe and the United States, both with his solo band and DRN and has in recent years performed at the ‘Sweden Rock Festival’ and England’s ‘Download Festival’.
We’ll talk new material, Dan Reed Network, his bourgeoning career as an artist and how parenting changed his perspective on life.
“I just felt it was time to get back to something that feels real, organic, and in tune with the current human condition.” – Reed

Strange Advance was initially made up of Drew Arnott (keyboards, percussion, vocals), Darryl Kromm (lead vocals, guitars), and Paul Iverson (bass). The three met in Vancouver and founded the group in 1980. Initially called Metropolis, they changed their name after discovering a band in Germany using “Metropolis”.
The group’s first album, Worlds Away featured the title track, “Worlds Away”, which saw modest airplay in North American markets in 1983. The album was produced by Bruce Fairbairn, known for his work with Loverboy and Prism, but featured a very different sound from those groups. Rather than commercial hard rock, Strange Advance’s music was a fusion of progressive rock and new wave, with a heavy reliance on synthesizers and keyboards.
Iverson left the group after the first album and was not replaced. The group’s 1985 album 2WO also went gold in Canada and was produced by Arnott, using an extensive array of session players, and brought the band their first big Canadian hit with “We Run”. Strange Advance had never played a live gig prior to 1985, so Arnott and Kromm added musicians Ric deGroot (keyboards), Ian Cameron (guitar, violin), Joey Alvero (bass) and David Quinton (drums) to the line-up as session players, and supported the first two albums with a tour of Eastern Canada.
Strange Advance’s third album, 1988’s The Distance Between also used well-known session musicians (including Randy Bachman and Allan Holdsworth), and produced the top 20 single “Love Becomes Electric”. Following this album’s release, the group became essentially inactive. Arnott stated in 2021 that other music genres such as grunge were gaining popularity, and he wasn’t interested in changing the group’s sound.
In 1995, the Strange Advance compilation album Worlds Away & Back featured a mix of previously released material, outtakes, remixes, demos, and three newly recorded tracks—one from 1991, and two from 1995.

Psyche, the Greek goddess of the soul, is often depicted wearing butterfly wings representing the trials she’s endured. Like Psyche, Maiah Wynne wears butterfly wings to symbolize hard-won hope and a lingering belief in beauty despite all her trials. “I found a lot of meaning in butterflies that I could connect to. Their ability to grow and transform, their strength, and chaos theory and the idea that a single flap from a butterfly could change the world. When I’m feeling small, I remind myself that I can still make big changes,” says Wynne.
Those changes happen in her music as she tells her own stories, alchemizing her victimhood into agency. “This album touches on themes of hope, failure and triumph, joy and sadness, pain and growth,” Wynne says of her debut solo LP Out of the Dark, which she also self-produced. “It’s an eclectic mix of heartfelt singer-songwriter ballads, alternative rock, and uplifting cinematic folk-pop. There are a lot of unique instruments on this record and a lot of talented musicians that have lent their skills.”
While those motifs re-occur, the musical variety sets the songs apart. Wynne is a self-taught multi-instrumentalist with a downright fearless curiosity about trying new things. “I own over 50 instruments and love playing all of them. The collection continues with some of my latest additions being the harp guitar and cigar box guitar.” Her live performances offer a taste of this, with her playing various drums with her feet while her hands circulate among guitar, ukulele, mandolin, banjo, or other stringed instruments, all while singing.
It would be tempting to call Wynne’s voice ethereal, but there’s just too much human pathos in it. In many songs, she offers the calm presence of a trusted confidante. “I look for threads of meaning and personal connection in everything I do. I want to relate to what I’m singing. If ‘I’m resonating with the music, I think others will too,” she says. Lead single “Come On” begins timidly with Wynne seeming unsure of herself, a softness she transcends by the song’s end. “I wrote this song when I was 16 and it was my mindset at the time right before I left home,” Wynne says, referring to her choice to run away from home, a journey that led her to experience sexual abuse and trauma. She describes “Out of the Dark” as “a soft hug, and wrote “Don’t Wait” to encourage her friend—and herself—to follow dreams.
Wynne’s music still has humor and edges to it, though. In “Butterfly,” a song about being underestimated, Wynne issues the reminder that butterflies are scavengers and chaos agents as well as delicate beauties. “Cause I’m a butterfly / Feeding on the corpses of my enemies,” she sings in the alt-pop song. I’m not afraid to break my bones if it means that I’ll grow,” she asserts in the song’s bridge, reminding listeners that change is hard, even for a butterfly. “What a Shame” brings the “heaviest and most grunge/rock song on the album. A commentary on the way society treats and sexualizes women (and all people in the public eye) from such a young age, only to discard them as they age,” explains Wynne.
Though this is Wynne’s first solo LP, she’s hardly new to recording. She has written and recorded songs for film and TV, as well as charity compilations. Starting in 2020, Wynne gained an online following for recording songs written by Lucy Gray in the Hunger Games book, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. She donned costumes and recreated scenery to perform her arrangements of the songs, which went viral.
Wynne’s other main project is Envy of None, who has released an album and an EP so far. The group began when Andy Curran told Wynne about music he made with his friend Alfio Anibalini and Wynne offered to contribute. They brought in Rush guitarist Alex Lifeson, who reported to Rolling Stone, speaking of Wynne, “I’ve never had that kind of inspiration working with another musician. When we say she’s special, it’s because she’s really fucking special!” Wynne credits Envy of None with a lot of her growth. “From introducing me to new genres and musical worlds to helping me navigate the industry, to dealing with online hate, to helping me feel confident and finding my footing as an artist, they’ve been such a blessing in my life.”
Out of the Dark is a record of Wynne’s growth. “This album has been a very long time in the making. I wrote the first song 10 years ago and the latest song just a few months ago. In a lot of ways, this album tells my story and is the culmination of my journey for the last 10 years of my life. I’ve poured my heart into it.”

That acclaim inspired Dilana to further pursue her musical passions with characteristic tenacity.
Dilana has performed with rock’s biggest legends including Tommy Lee and Mick Mars (Mötley Crue), Dave Navarro (Jane’s Addiction, Red Hot Chili Peppers), Gilby Clark (Guns N’ Roses), Adrian Young (No Doubt), DJ Ashba (SIXX AM), John 5 (Marilyn Manson) and many others. Following the release of seven singles, Dilana spent much of 2008 in the studio. In November 2009, she unleashed the album Inside Out, featuring 12 original tracks and her first full-length album in nine years. As new opportunities presented themselves, Dilana jumped at the chance to venture into film acting. The singer/songwriter won the BEST ACTRESS award as well as the BEST MUSIC award at the Action On Film International Film Festival for the 9 songs she co-wrote with Erik Eldenius (current drummer for Billy Idol) and performed in the rock drama: Angel Camouflaged.
During her wide-ranging world touring, Dilana performed in Afghanistan for the troops in 2009 and 2010. She was a part of the Go Army Concert Series tour in August 2011, sharing the stage with Lynyrd Skynyrd and the Doobie Brothers as well as touring Holland, South Africa, and across the USA.
