Carl (SOLOVOX) is a dynamic synth artist and music director highly sought after in the Pacific Northwest for his unique approach to sonic exploration. I’m excited to discover his new quadrophonic live sound for his show with Floydian Slips Pink Floyd tribute forthcoming in Eugene September 21.

A producer, composer, and one-man synthesizer attack squad, Solovox is the sound of Earl Carlton Tietze III. He combines his original compositions of nasty future-funk, electro-house, and melodic downtempo with his remixes of other artists’ tracks to create a sound that is his and his alone…and he does it live, by hand.

His keyboard chops remind one of Herbie Hancock smashing head-on into the Chemical Brothers. Mayhem usually ensues, and he consistently delivers one of the finest live electronic shows available anywhere.

He has remixed three tracks for Vokab Kompany including ‘Shine’ featuring Souleye, ‘Gunslinger‘ for their album ‘Quit Sleep,’ and ‘Let It Fly’ featuring The Grouch and Souleye. He has done full video game sound design and composition, as well as tracks for Burn Notice and A&E’s Biography. He is a sought-after instructor for Ableton Live, Reason, Cubase and electronic music production.

In July of 2009 he became the first-ever all-electronic act in the history of The Oregon Country Fair for their 40th Anniversary. He also headlined San Diego’s Elysium Festival, Mexico’s Fuente Eterno festival, Nexus in Los Angeles, and almost killed 2,000 revelers on top of the Hawthorne Bridge in 2010 for BridgeFest, causing the bridge to sway 2 feet up and down.

He has shared the bill with Orbital, Bassnectar, Beats Antique, Ott, Tipper, and countless others. In 2012 he was a featured performer at Inspire:Truth, Threshold, WhiteOut, and the inaugural What The Festival in Oregon. In October 2012 he was featured on OPB’s ‘Oregon Art Beat.’

In 2013 he performed in Southern California, Idaho’s Sun Valley, as well as numerous shows in the Northwest at festivals like Human Nature and What The Festival. 2014 saw the release of his CD ‘Daring Feats Of Leisure,’ highlighting the best moments from his Friday Afternoon Concerts…a live podcast most Fridays at 3pm (Pacific) where he improvises and performs live from his studio to an online audience.

Whether improvising heavily with a downtempo acid jazz set or laying down dance tracks for the dancing crowds, Solovox is not a DJ…he is one of the most exciting electronic performers to be found anywhere.

As mentioned in today’s episode, here’s footage of the entire 1975 Pink Floyd album ‘Wish You Were Here’ performed in its entirety by The Floydian Slips. April 13, 2024 at Revolution Hall, Portland Oregon:

From conception to the current day Dan Reed Network, Kerry Bechtol has been the Lighting Director behind the scenes. In the biz, we know that dynamos like Kerry rarely get the credit they deserve, helping those amazing artists look larger than life through the power and imagery of lighting magic. Kerry’s been the visionary man behind the curtain for many other artists including Tesla, Meredith Brooks, Shock and more. Come share some fun recollections of a man who’s seen it all!

We ALL have those albums that kidnapped our attention, etching their resonance into our psyche at a young age with the power of the aesthetic, even before we got to actually LISTEN to the contents. Combining those elements was the game-changer for most of us, cementing our love and appreciation for certain bands and performers based on the combination of themes, references and art.

Luke Duran is one of the greatest graphic designers I know (he crafted All Access Live with Kevin Rankin’s logo!), and for 22 years served as the art director for Montana Outdoors magazine, and recently began work as art director for Montana Historical Society publications. Luke operates Element L Design, a freelance design business specializing in visual identity, branding, publications, and graphic design for nonprofits that he supports.

35 years ago, Luke and I started our musical careers performing in bands together and sharing our love for bands and their accompanying album art. Now that Luke has assembled a program for discussion of the appreciation for album art that moves us, it was the perfect time to share this reflection with you!

KIX founding member and guitarist joins All Access Live to discuss putting the finishing touches on a band that spanned 45 years! There’s no doubt he’ll have plenty of stories to share about the ultimate decision to wrap up the band’s career that might have one of the most rabid fan bases of it’s genre.

The American hard rock band Kix was formed in Hagerstown, Maryland in 1978. The band’s classic lineup included Ronnie “10/10” Younkins and Brian “Damage” Forsythe on guitar, Donnie Purnell on bass, Steve Whiteman on vocals, and Jimmy “Chocolate” Chalfant on drums. Kix’s influences included hard rock, punk, and other styles, and they were known for singles like “Blow My Fuse”, “Cold Blood”, and “Don’t Close Your Eyes”. The band released several albums, including their self-titled debut in 1981, Cool Kids in 1983, Midnite Dynamite, and Blow My Fuse in 1988. Kix achieved popularity in the 1980s and toured with other bands like AC/DC, Aerosmith, and David Lee Roth. The band disbanded in 2023 after a 45-year career.

Mark Powers is one of the Pacific Northwest’s secret weapons. A skilled tradesman possessing a vast wealth of capabilities, not only in the percussion realm, but as a stalwart music industry journeyman. On top of that, the guy climbs a mean rock wall! Hang out and chat with Mark to discover why so many artists seek him out to perfect their live and studio presentations.

I’ve also had the pleasure of appearing on tracks that feature Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys, Peter Buck and Scott McCaughey of R.E.M., Neko Case, and k.d. lang.”

A guitar player, writer, producer, and composer, Stevie Salas has recorded on over 70 different albums with artists as diverse as George Clinton, Justin Timberlake, Buddy Miles, T.I., Mick Jagger, and Rod Stewart. Having sold over two million solo albums around the world, Stevie has been cited as one of the top 50 guitarists of all time.

Dreaming of a career in music, Stevie left the small town of Oceanside, California in 1985. Eight months later he was discovered by funk music legend George Clinton as the lead guitarist for Clinton’s albums. Stevie received his first major label producer credit with “Was (Not Was)” when he co-produced the UK hit “Out Come the Freaks” from the Album “What up Dog?” Rolling Stone Magazine listed “What up Dog?” as one of the top 100 records of the decade.

In 1988, Stevie was asked to join Rod Stewart on a world tour as lead guitarist. Skipping cities in a private jet to sold-out stadiums led to Stevie signing the largest record deal Island Records had ever paid for a new artist. Stevie’s first record, “Colorcode,” is still a cult classic in the UK and Europe, and his second solo album, “Back from the Living,” ousted the Rolling Stones and Aerosmith for “Best Album” in Japan.
