SHOW POSTPONED: Date TBD
Andy Curran first burst onto the Canadian music scene in 1982 as the founding member of Coney Hatch. The rocket-ride that followed saw Curran’s hard-rocking quartet share stages with Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Peter Frampton, Ted Nugent, Cheap Trick and Rush. Bumping shoulders (and guitars) with these rock icons landed the band two special guest slots in one year at the legendary Maple Leaf Gardens.
Continuing on a streak of success, Curran then released his eponymous titled solo album in 1992. Andy was nominated for two Juno Awards that year, taking home Most Promising Male Vocalist of the Year. This album went on to garner three top ten hits, “No Tattoos,” “License to Love,” and “Let Go” making his band a staple on the Music Music airwaves. Curran quickly regrouped after 18 months of heavy touring (and a Juno Award for his efforts) with a new band called Soho 69 and the 1993 release of the aptly titled” Scatterbrain”.
The lead off track called “Kiss My Boots” quickly became a favorite at Much Music. Highlights from that tour would be a home coming Toronto show where Soho 69 were special guests to one of Andy’s favorite bands, Kings X.
The years to follow would be a rollercoaster ride that involved signing a publishing deal and releasing the debut record for his Alt-rock band Caramel on Geffen Records. That release produced a top ten radio hit in the USA “Lucy” and saw Andy & Co hitting the road sharing stages with Creed, Stabbing Westward, Brother Cain and Econoline Crush.
After months of touring and watching Geffen dissolve and get gobbled up by music giants Universal Music, Andy would pick up the pieces and go back to his humble roots and look to his long time friend and engineer Vic Florencia to helm the recordings for his newest project.
That band comprised of Curran, Simon Brierley, Randy Cooke and Virginia Storey would morph through 3 different names, Drug Plan, Trailer Park eventually landing on Leisureworld and signing to Artist Direct. That band released the single “I Can’t Quit You” and that song along with “I’m Dead” saw healthy airplay in pockets like Boston and Madison, WI before Curran would eventually regain control of those masters and orchestrate digital releases for Caramel (Feb 9th 2021) and Leisureworld expanded edition (Mar 11 2021). Neither records were previously available on digital formats and are now streaming on all DSPs.
Recently, Andy turned has turned his focus on a new side project called Envy of None with his long time friend and Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Famer, Alex Lifeson. Their debut self titled record was released April of 2022 and received massive critical acclaim following the release of their 4 singles; “Liar”,” Never Said I Love You”, “Look Inside” and “That Was Then”.
Today, Curran celebrates the 30th Anniversary deluxe release of his Juno Award winning 1992 solo record now re tilted “Whiskey & the Devil 30th” available on SING Market.
“I’m staying busy and consider myself very lucky to still be making music all these years later“
